Reason of the week to visit Provence:
It’s probably been about 6 years since I first heard Leonard’s Music at the weekly outdoor market in L’isle sur la Sorgue. I wasn’t familiar with New Orleans jazz, but his music was intoxicating and before I knew it I’d been toe-tapping and hip-swinging for over an hour. I was mesmerized and I was not alone. I was surrounded by hip-swingers and toe-tappers from all over the globe. His music is infectious and that is evident by the ever-growing crowd of spectators and followers of Gig Street. This New Orleans native sings from the soul and plays incredible saxophone. Together with his band, Gig Street, comprised of local Frenchmen, they create some of the most uplifting, joyful music around. Songs include covers of Jazz greats, and original pieces as well. Gig Street just released its 4th cd this past March, and it is probably my favorite disc to date. Be sure to visit Leonard and his band when you visit Provence. It's a guaranteed good time. He can be found at the outdoor market in L’isle sur la Sorgue every Sunday, and at the market in St. Remy every Wednesday, and if you find a moment, say a little prayer for his family back in New Orleans. While they were able to evacuate before the arrival of Hurricane Katrina, the extent of destruction to their property is still unknown.
